TEXAS: STOP the STAAR/EOC TESTS

Children-Walking-Away-300x218Texas Education was Better Before STAAR/EOC

by Janice VanCleave

WWW. TXCSCOPEREVIEW.COM

Children enjoyed school and were better educated before the STAAR/EOC tests.

The Texas Commissioner of Education has no concern for children. It is all about the STATE testing, which have been shown not to be correct, yet these tests are used to determine whether students are promoted.

Students in Texas public schools are only taught information that could be on the state tests. Nothing else is important. Thus, Texas children are being dumbed down by the state educational officials.

Did you know that parent rights are limited in the Texas Code of Education? Read the following from this code and you will find this statement: The decision of the grade placement committee is final and may not be appealed. There is no one reviewing the STAAR/EOC tests other than TEA and Pearson Publishing who is being paid millions to do this.

One way to improve Texas Education is to stop the STAAR/EOC tests. Please opt your children out of the

STAAR/EOC tests.

Texas Education Code – Section 28.0211. Satisfactory Performance On Assessment Instruments Required; Accelerated Instruction

(e) A student who, after at least three attempts, fails to perform satisfactorily on an assessment instrument specified under Subsection (a) shall be retained at the same grade level for the next school year in accordance with Subsection (a). The student’s parent or guardian may appeal the student’s retention by submitting a request to the grade placement committee established under Subsection (c). The school district shall give the parent or guardian written notice of the opportunity to appeal. The grade placement committee may decide in favor of a student’s promotion only if the committee concludes, using standards adopted by the board of trustees, that if promoted and given accelerated instruction, the student is likely to perform at grade level. A student may not be promoted on the basis of the grade placement committee’s decision unless that decision is unanimous. The commissioner by rule shall establish a time line for making the placement determination. This subsection does not create a property interest in promotion. The decision of the grade placement committee is final and may not be appealed.

What about this situation:

A child passed all class assignments and tests but failed all three STAAR 5th grade reading tests. The placement committee decided to retain the child in the 5th grade.

During the summer, the child attended a private reading academy. The child’s reading level was raised to meet requirements for the 6th grade. Do the parents not have the right to appeal the decision of the grade placement committee?

BETRAYED: How The Education Establishment Has Betrayed America and What You Can Do About It.

Image of Laurie H. Rogers
Many parents have asked themselves, “Why is my child not learning much this year in school?” About four years ago, Laurie H. Rogers asked this question of district administrators, but her question was politely diverted. Laurie continued to press for answers from district, then state and federal administration, continually running into obstruction and more diversion. Laurie began writing her blog “Betrayed,” which chronicles her attempts to get answers and to effect positive change in public education, particularly in math education. Her book “Betrayed” is the result of her advocacy efforts.

In “Betrayed,” Laurie roots out the self-styled “stakeholders” whose personal, professional and financial interests are served by this failing system, and who force failing ideology on teachers and students, despite its nearly complete lack of supporting research or successful student outcomes. Laurie empathizes with teachers–many of whom aren’t allowed to do their jobs, yet who are constantly threatened with removal for “ineffectiveness” or “insubordination.” “Betrayed” is more than an expose; it’s a beacon of hope, offering practical methods for teachers, parents, advocates and legislators to stand up against this broken system and to ensure a good-quality education for all of our children.

Laurie has a background in finance, journalism and child advocacy and has volunteered in various schools – tutoring children in literacy and math, and teaching chess, argumentation and knitting. She lives in Spokane with her husband and daughte

Betrayed

In America, more money is spent from all sources on K-12 education than on the U.S. Department of Defense. Why then are so many children suffering what amounts to educational malpractice? Why are they crippled for life with a substandard education and a life-altering vision of themselves as “incapable”?

Betrayed is a passionate, well-researched and frank accounting of how a failing public-education system continues to be forced on teachers and students, despite its nearly complete lack of supporting research or successful student outcomes. Betrayed roots out the self-styled “stakeholders” whose personal, professional and financial interests are served by this failing system. It sympathizes with teachers—many of whom aren’t allowed to do their jobs, yet are constantly threatened with removal for “ineffectiveness” or “insubordination.”

Betrayed is an expose, but it’s also a beacon of commonsense and hope. Through the “Square of Effective Learning,” Betrayed offers practical methods for teachers, parents, advocates and legislators to stand up against this broken system, to effect positive change, and to ensure a good-quality education for all of our children.

*These are some of the best resources that clearly explain why the Common Core Standards/Race to the Top are harmful to our school children. For people who do not like to read, there are many videos and podcasts also.

For people who have only recently become aware of the Common Core Standards Initiative or for those who are researching to try to alert their elected officials about the dangers of the CCSI, this list of Anti-Common Core Standards Resources should be invaluable.

This list puts these resources all “in one place” on one website for easy access.  The resources are listed in chronological order and clearly show that a huge backlash against the Common Core Standards Initiative is growing as more people learn about the onerous consequences of allowing the federal government to take over our nation’s school children.

This list also shows that many states are taking action against the CCSI. CCSI is not inevitable if concerned citizens will rise up and do their part to stop its implementation.

I have taken the liberty to change a few of the titles to help readers locate articles more easily.

Muslim Journeys, Jihadists Recruiting Our Children

“Muslim Journeys, Jihadists Recruiting Our Children, Alice LInahan Conference Call”

by Donna Garner

9.26.13

Leave it to the American Library Association (ALA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEA) to use our tax dollars to promote the Obama administration’s leftwing agenda – “Muslim Journeys Program” in Denton, Texas.

As best I could determine, the ALA receives around $184 Million per year of taxpayers’ dollars appropriated by Congress; and the NEA receives close to $154 Million.

The NEA is well known for such grants as the one in which an artist produced Piss Christ, a photo of a plastic crucifix submerged in urine.

In 2006 the American Library Association gave its prestigious “academy award” for Young People’s Literature (ages 12 – 18) to Looking for Alaska by John Green.  The ALA award propelled this porn novel to popularity all around the country.  See “Actual Quotes from the Book” —  http://www.safelibraries.org/pushers.htm#language  ).

For years, we have tried to get Congress to cut the funding for ALA and NEA.  With our country on the edge of the fiscal cliff, now would be a great time to let these two leftwing entities stand on their own.

Let the ALA and NEA raise their own funds to promote their leftist agenda and see how far they get.  If the local taxpayers are sold on what the ALA and NEA want to do in their local communities, let the locals pay for it. If the people of Denton, Texas, want to fund “Muslim Journeys,” let the locals pay for it.

With the brutal killings in Kenya, Benghazi, Boston Marathon, Ft. Hood, 9/11, Mali, London, Tel Aviv, Baghdad, Basra, Marrakech, Nigeria, Thailand, Frankfurt, Manilla, and many more by Muslim terrorists, I think the ALA and NEA might find themselves with very little local support for “Muslim Journeys.”  – Donna Garner

Advice from Donna Garner to parents:

With schools so caught up in the 21st Century technology craze, I would encourage parents not to allow their school children to go on Skype or other online venues to dialogue with “global pen pals” – during the school day or on their techie devices at home.  Jihadists are trying to lure our American children to join their terrorist networks.  CNN recently reported that the Kenyan mall attacks may very well have involved jihadist Somali young men who have been lured from America over the Internet.

All of us need to be very concerned about an effort in the United States to desensitize our school children through their curriculum to destroy a belief in American exceptionalism.  Such desensitization leaves our school children open to being linked up with unknown “global pen pals” who may very well be Muslim jihadists trying to recruit our children into their cause.

July 4th, What is Independence About?

Share Button

Ronald Reagan on Freedom

by Dave Jolly of Political Outcast

When my granddaughter Megan was 8 years old and just completed 2nd grade, her mom asked her about the Fourth of July and if she knew what it was about. Megan said it was about fireworks.  Pressing the issue further, it became apparent that Megan had been taught absolutely nothing about July 4th or American independence. My daughter called me and asked if I would be willing to spend some time with Megan and teach her about American independence and the history of our nation.

A couple of days later, I had the opportunity to talk to Megan and ask her what they taught her in school about America.  She told me that they had taught her a little about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, but mostly they taught her all about President Obama and how great he is. When I heard what the public schools had been teaching our children and grandchildren, I was angry and yet at the same time, I almost wanted to cry.

I pushed the subject a little further and asked Megan if they taught her anything about why the Pilgrims came to America or why we fought the British in the Revolutionary War and she looked at me like I had been asking about quantum physics.  What I did find out was that she had been taught about globalism and how we should all be working together to save the planet.

This really got me thinking about Deuteronomy 6:4-15.

4″Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

10″And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, 12 then take care lest you forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 13 It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear. 14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you— 15 for the LORD your God in your midst is a jealous God— lest the anger of the LORD your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.

Verses 4 thru 9 instruct us to teach God’s Word to our children in such a fashion that they are with them always.  In verses 10 thru 15, we are told not to forget the God that brought us into the Promised Land and not to go after other gods.

America has become the Promised Land over the past 250 years.  Reading our TRUE history, it becomes readily apparent that God led the Pilgrims out of the bondage of the religious tyranny they were under in the various European countries and into the wilderness of colonial America.  And in that history we see that as long as they worshipped the Lord God as their God and followed His statutes that God continued to bless our nation.

Yet as we see today, the nation has turned away from God and His statutes and He is now turning His wrath and judgment against us.  Our nation is following after other gods, the gods of atheism, hedonism, socialism, evolutionism and environmentalism.

That led me to Psalm 78 which speaks about the Israelites in the wilderness with Moses who in less than one generation, turned away from God and were subsequently destroyed.  They saw God’s miracles of the parting of the Red Sea, being led by the cloud during the day and pillar of fire by night, the manna and quail and the water coming out of the rock, and yet they forsook their heritage and upbringing.

With scripture in mind, I realized that since Megan’s dad was not part of her life, that it was my responsibility to teach her about God’s Word and about our promised land – America.  It is my duty to carry out Deut. 6 and not the public schools.  This is a duty that I am taking seriously and am looking forward to.

Have you ever asked your children if they understood what July 4th was all about or if they knew America’s Christian history?  Have you ever sat down with them and read Deut. 6 or Psalm 78 and showed them how that relates to America?

I challenge all of you to make this July 4th weekend a special one and teach your children what it is all about.  Teach them about the Pilgrims and why they came to America.  Tell them about the thousands of men and women who sacrificed so much to win our independence.

DOJ: GOVERNMENTS CAN PUNISH HOMESCHOOLERS

Share Button

author-image  BOB UNRUH

homeschool family

The U.S. Department of Justice has revealed in a court filing it agrees with the philosophy of the German government that bureaucrats can punish homeschooling parents.

And the agency explained parental rights to keep their children free from instruction that violates their faith essentially are negligible when the government’s goal is an “open society.”

The arguments were made in a pleading before the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that encourages the judges to send a German homeschooling family, the Romeikes, back to Germany where members likely would face persecution.

“The goal in Germany is for an ‘open, pluralistic society,’” wrote the government’s pleading, signed by Senior Litigation Counsel Robert N. Markle in Washington. So, he said, there is a law requiring attendance by all at government schools and punishment is levied against anyone failing to comply, whether they are truant or have religious objections to the indoctrination at the public schools.

His argument to the appellate court cited from a German court decision, which stated: “The general public has a justified interest in counteracting the development of religiously or philosophically motivated ‘parallel societies’ and in integrating minorities in this area. Integration does not only require that the majority of the population does not exclude religious or ideological minorities, but, in fact, that these minorities do not segregate themselves and that they do not close themselves off to a dialogue with dissenters and people of other beliefs. Dialogue with such minorities is an enrichment for an open pluralistic society. The learning and practicing of this in the sense of experienced tolerance is an important lesson right from the elementary school stage. The presence of a broad spectrum of convictions in a classroom can sustainably develop the ability of all pupils in being tolerant and exercising the dialogue that is a basic requirement of democratic decision-making process.”

Markle said since all parents whose children don’t attend mandatory public school classes – homeschoolers and truants alike, the punishment for all is fair.

The German family had withdrawn their children from German schools over teachings on sex, violence and other issues that conflicted with their Christian faith.

The DOJ also brought in international court rulings, noting that, “The European Court of Human Rights has held that parents could not refuse the right to education of a child on the basis of the parents’ convictions, because the child has an independent right to education.”

Such rulings in Europe have been used to confirm that it is the state that makes decisions about education for children, not parents.

“According to the court, this latter right, by its nature, calls for regulation by the state, which enjoys a degree of flexibility in setting up and interpreting rules governing its education system,” the DOJ wrote.

The DOJ continued, “The court upheld the German law, noting – importantly for purposes of this petition – that compulsory attendance does not deprive parents of their right to exercise, with respect to their children, ‘natural parental functions as educators or to guide their children on a path in line with the parents’ own religious or philosophical convictions.’

“The parents are free to attend to their children’s religious training and to offer the children opposing viewpoints from those taught in school, should they feel it necessary to do so,” the DOJ wrote.

The Home School Legal Defense Association, which is fighting on behalf of the family, said, Germany’s actions amount to persecution – a platform on which the Romeikes should be granted asylum.

“Silencing the ‘intolerant’ to promote tolerance is not only illogical; it is antithetical to any theory of freedom of conscience,” the organization argued earlier.

A panel of the court had rejected the family’s asylum request, the HSLDA asked for rehearing, and the court ordered the DOJ to respond.

“Attorney General [Eric] Holder is trying to seek dismissal of this case because he believes that targeting specific groups in the name of tolerance is within the normal legitimate functions of government,” said Michael Farris, HSLDA founder. “This cannot be the ultimate position of the United States without denying the essence of our commitment to liberty.

“We’re trying to provide a home for this family who would otherwise go back to facing fines, jail time, and forcible removal of their children because of their religious convictions about how their children should be educated. Why Attorney General Holder thinks that it is appropriate for any country to do this to a family simply for homeschooling is beyond me.”

Farris had warned that the court’s position has far-reaching consequences.

“When the United States government says that homeschooling is a mutable choice, it is saying that a government can legitimately coerce you to change this choice,” Farris said. “In other words, you have no protected right to choose what type of education your children will receive. We should understand that in these arguments, something very concerning is being said about the liberties of all Americans.

“I’m glad Obama wasn’t in charge in 1620,” Farris said in an appearance on “Fox and Friends.” “The government’s arguments in this case confuse equal persecution with equal protection and demonstrate a serious disregard for individual religious liberty. I really wonder what would’ve happened to the Pilgrims under this administration.”

HSLDA said the Romeikes fled from Germany to the United States to legally homeschool. An immigration judge who heard their case ruled they had a well-founded fear of persecution if returned to German, so granted them asylum.

Their children had been undergoing indoctrination in Germany on issues of sexual permissiveness and leftist political ideology when the family decided to act.

But the Obama administration, unhappy with the outcome, appealed.

Michael Donnelly, HSLDA’s director of international affairs who works with persecuted homeschoolers worldwide, said, “Germany persecutes homeschoolers. Exorbitant fines, custody threats, and imprisonment over homeschooling should be seen for what it is – persecution. It is unconscionable for the 6th Circuit to ignore black and white edicts from the German Supreme Court explicitly condoning this behavior. Germany’s countrywide federal and state policies that essentially ban home education should not be accepted as complying with basic human rights standards.”

WND has reported on the case since its inception. Just weeks ago, HSLDA officials launched a petition on a White House website to seek help. The White House policy is to provide a response to petitions that collect more than 100,000 signatures, but nothing has been heard since the threshold was passed more than a month ago.

The German Supreme Court said because of the issue of socialization, the state, not parents, decides how children are educated.

“This is dangerous precedent. One that Americans ignore at their peril,” Donnelly said.

“This is the nightmare of German parents – even non-homeschooling parents have suffered by being fined and sent to jail seeking to exercise reasonable discretion over their children’s education such as opting them out of certain objectionable presentations of material that violates their convictions. German states don’t tolerate differences in education – they just want uniformity. But fundamental human rights and even international law requires Germany to respect the superior right of parents over education of children.”

As WND reported, police officers appeared on their Romeike’s doorstep in Germany in 2006 to forcibly take their children to a local public school.

Germany is notorious for its attacks on homeschooling families. In one case several years ago, a young teen was taken from her family and put into a psychiatric ward because she was homeschooled. Fines and even jail terms are common.

WND previously reported on a law journal article that undermines the Obama administration’s arguments.

The article, “Germany Homeschoolers as ‘Particular Society Group’: Evaluation Under Current U.S. Asylum Jurisprudence,” was written by Miki Kawashima Matrician and published in the 2011 Boston College International and Comparative Law Review.

The journal article said, “The BIA should find that all German homeschoolers comprise a ‘particular social group,’ regardless of whether the Romeike family successfully established a claim of ‘well-founded fear of persecution.’”

The problem is that a Nazi-era law in Germany in 1938, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, eliminated exemptions that would provide an open door for homeschoolers under the nation’s compulsory education laws.

Wolfgang Drautz, consul general for the Federal Republic of Germany, previously wrote on the issue in a blog, explaining the German government “has a legitimate interest in countering the rise of parallel societies that are based on religion.”

As WND reported, the German government believes schooling is critical to socialization, as is evident in its response to parents who objected to police officers picking up their child at home and delivering him to a public school.

“The minister of education does not share your attitudes toward so-called homeschooling,” said a government letter. “… You complain about the forced school escort of primary school children by the responsible local police officers. … In order to avoid this in future, the education authority is in conversation with the affected family in order to look for possibilities to bring the religious convictions of the family into line with the unalterable school attendance requirement.”

CSCOPE & COW FARTS

There seems to be nothing new under the sun with the TEXAS MARXIST CURRICULUM, CSCOPE and their indoctrination of our Texas School Children. Every rock turned over leads to more deception and indoctrination aimed at our children.

I found this  CSCOPE powerpoint outrageous on pollution.

If your  in the cork industry you may be able to get a federal grant from the environmental agency and turn a profit by plugging up the behinds of our livestock. You see according to CSCOPE our students are taught methane gas produced from livestock flatulence contributes to our  pollution! Seriously? Part of me wants to roll over with laughter but when it comes to the indoctrination that our children and what kind of America my children and grandchildren will have in the future I get ANGRY! Those responsible will have to answer for this. Sad their interest seek deep pockets and not the interest of our children.

Cow Farts

It appears that I have become unpaid  CSCOPE (TESCCC) employee. Every time I reveal their indoctrination they correct or remove it. Why? Would it be that they have used taxpayers money to fund the indoctrination of our children and don’t want to be found out or could it be they have yet to disclose where all the BIG MONEY has gone?

After blogging the above content TESCCC removed the powerpoint thought the instruction for using it in the lesson is still in there as you can see below.
